EVENT: Public Art Unveiling
Celebrate the unveiling of our neighborhood’s first-ever public art that will provide a block-by-block trail for visitors through the Arts District. Designed and created by artist and long-time resident Valerie Mitchell, the medallions artistically reflect the area as it was in the 1850s – an agricultural area full of groves and vineyards – as if seen through an opening of the 1930s-era 4th Street Bridge. The project was funded by a grant through the Arts District BID to the artist from the Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA/LA). Speakers include Councilman José Huizar, 14th District, City of Los Angeles; Estela Lopez, Executive Director, Central City East Association; Michael Tansey, Chair, Arts District BID; and Valerie Mitchell, Medallion Designer and Artist.
