GO! The Container Yard goes Hawaiian with “LA TIKI”

On Saturday, February 13 at 11am-8pmThe Container Yard opens its massive 60,000-sq-ft arts complex for its second event in a series of FREE community festivals designed to highlight LA’s best street artists, deejays, chefs, and bartenders — all for a good cause! If you haven’t yet been inside this amazing venue, you’re in for a treat – it is RARELY open to the public unless there is a special event, so be sure to come! Artwork adorns the walls of this multipurpose, indoor/outdoor venue, inside and out, up and down, all around. Just touring the place is well worth your time. Add an amazing selection of food and drinks for sale by some of the coolest new places, and you’ve got a very hip, very fun Saturday planned. Parking is available in nearby lots and streets, but always limited in the Arts District, so consider walking, riding your bike, or using public transit (the nearest DASH stops take you to either the front of The Pie Hole on Traction Ave. near Hewitt St. or SCI-Arc on Merrick St. at 4th Pl.).

FOOD FOR SALE:
Sticky Rice of Grand Central Market: Menu includes Thai dim sum; Kanom Jeeb (steamed Thai dumplings), fried onion cakes, mango sticky rice, and fresh coconuts.

Shuck It: Menu includes grilled oysters with brown herb butter topped with romano cheese and chilled oysters with a sugar-cane mignonette. (FYI: This is a new mobile oyster bar concept by Lobsterdamus grillmasters Johnny Angeles, Francis Reyes, Loni So, and Ramon Almario.)

Ramen Yeah!: Menu includes Hokkaido Miso Ramen; Hokkaido Miso Chashu (braised pork belly) Ramen; and Shoyu Chashu Ramen. (FYI: This is the premiere of new Hawaiian-Hokkaido ramen concept by Chef Yusuke Morita formerly with Kohaku and Japanese Ramen Kai with restaurateur Shintaro Yano who helped open Honolulu hot spot Sushi Ginza Onodera.)

DRINKS: Handcrafted Tiki cocktails made with rum and agave will be created on site by mixologist Aaron Melendez (The Walker Inn, LA Cantina Califa, and Salazar, the new Mexican barbecue spot soon to open in Frogtown).

GIVING BACK: The Container Yard has partnered with the Global Inheritance and the nonprofit’s “Rain Supreme Program” for this event. Selected artists will receive one blank 60-gallon rain barrel to design. An exhibition of the artist-designed rain barrels will tour California through the spring, along with a water conservation and rain collection workshop. Tour destinations may range from university campuses and studio lots to venues like the Ace Hotel and Soho House. After the exhibition ends its tour, the painted Rain Supreme barrels will be auctioned off to raise funds for Global Inheritance water education initiatives or donated to community spaces, schools, museums, and/or gardens. To date, selected artists include Vyal OneJames HauntBrandon Sopinsky, Ben Swenson, Jeremiah GarciaAshley Macias, with others to be added.
