EXHIBIT: Ashkan Honarvar Art Show Opens at CES Gallery on 2/27

“Sometimes I forget myself” opens at CES Gallery on Saturday, February 27 @ 7-9pm. This solo show by Ashkan Honarvar features the artist’s new works on paper from two recent series of work: Denial of Death, inspired by the writings of cultural anthropologist Ernest Becker; and King of Worms, which references radical feminist filmmaker Jane Arden’s The Other Side of the Underneath and its exploration of corruption, abuse of power, and gender inequality. The artist gathers materials from different visual and contextual worlds — slicing up fashion magazines, newspapers, home and garden glossies, art history books, scientific journals, etc. — and aligns them into a single composition. Each cut image shape functions as part of its former context and within Honarvar’s constructed narrative. Working exclusively in hand-cut collage, Honarvar presents a mythic and visceral vision of humanity and its qualitative constructs. His show remains on view at the gallery through Saturday, April 2.
