WEDNESDAY 3/28 @ 7:00 PM
PUBLIC TALK: Nicholase de Monchaux “(intro by John Enright)
Architect and author of “Spacesuit: Fashioning Apollo” presents an architectural history of Apollo 11’s 21-layer extra-vehicular garment, which offers an object lesson about redundancy and interdependence and about the distinctions between natural and man-made complexity. He states that “it teaches us to know the virtues of adaptation and to see the future as a set of possibilities rather than a scripted scenario … particularly important lessons for our own era, where architects grapple daily with the conflict and concurrence of nature and technology.”

WEDNESDAY 3/28 @ 7:30 PM to 10:45 PM
FILMS: Fast Times at Ridgemont High (90 min.) & Rock n Roll High School (93 min.)
This double-feature is presented by UCLA Film & Television Archive. In “Fast Times at Ridgemont High” (1982), Sean Penn fronts a terrific cast in this snapshot of Southern California high-schoolers bewildered by the world they’ll soon be entering. In “Rock n Roll High School” (1979), it’s total war between high school staff who don’t understand rock music and students who live for The Ramones.
