Hey, living here since 1993 means I’ve got a wealth of knowledge … obscure AND well-known. Here’s a few of my insider tips about the Arts District and Downtown Los Angeles:

  • MAILING PACKAGES: Avoid LONG LINES at any U.S. Postal Service location in Los Angeles by mailing your packages and letters instead at the USPS Contract Station in Little Tokyo’s Honda Plaza @ 406 E. 2nd St. Los Angeles 90012, (213) 613-0701. Free parking, OPEN on Sundays, onsite notary services (call first to schedule), and inexpensive shipping recommendations from Peter and Dee!
  • RENTING IN THE ARTS DISTRICT: If you want to rent a loft in the Arts District, consider other options first since there is limited supply of such housing. Check out one of the local “gated communities” — Savoy, MURA, or Artisan on Second. If price is a factor, consider temporary month-to-month residential lodging like the Sogo Residence or American Hotel. Either way, once you are here, you may stumble upon one of the rare vacancies in the dozen or so “artist-in-residence” original loft buildings located in the vicinity (i.e., these typically are larger and more industrial than the newer “live-work” versions elsewhere in Downtown Los Angeles; for the latter, click HERE).
