Long-time resident and formerly homeless Fernando Anglero is back in the Arts District – City of L.A. … now clean and living off the streets. Click on his photo to read his writings about his life and experiences. Fernando is originally from Puerto Rico and he has lived in this area since 1997. His father recently passed away at the age of 90, and his twin brother lives in Middletown, Connecticut.

Artwork in inaugural exhibition

Gallery Opens in Arts District

New to the Downtown Arts District neighborhood is The Box LA, a gallery owned by renowned sculptor/performance artist Paul McCarthy, run by his daughter Mara McCarthy and best known for presenting politically engaged art exhibitions. Formerly on Chung King Road in Chinatown (since the summer of 2007), the Box LA premieres its new location at 805 Traction Ave. this weekend.

Opening on Saturday, January 14 @ 6-9pm, the inaugural exhibition is “Beneath the Valley of the Lowest Form of Music – The L.A. Free Music Society, 1972-2012,” which promises to be “an ancient music faction with little discoverers and musical putterers.” It features artists and performers Le Forte Four, Doo-Dooettes, Ace and Duce, Smegma, Airway, Extended Organ, Dinosaurs with Horns, The Child Molestors, The Rodney Forest, Solid Eye, The Tenses, The Mystery Band, BDR Ensemble, South Pasadena Free Music Ensemble, Joe & Joe, Stillife, The Fine Art Dumpsters, The Two Who Do Duets, Foundation Boo, Monique Experience, Friendship Pagoda, Patients, Seldom Melodic Ensemble, Precambrian Three, Swan Trove, Gobbler, Takuya Sakaguchi, Joe Potts, Rick Potts, Tom Potts, Chip Chapman, Susan Farthing Chapman, Tom Recchion, Harold Schroeder, Fredrik Nilsen, Dennis Duck, Juan Gomez, Vetza, John Duncan, Ju Suk Reet Meate, Rock N’ Roll Jackie, Ace Farren Ford, The Professor, Kevin Laffey, Joseph Hammer, Jerry Bishop, Paul McCarthy, Mike Kelley, and Danny Gromfin.
